Event Description

This year's Legal Seminar features educational sessions tailored for every experience level — from beginner to expert. Whether you're new to community association management or a seasoned HOA or condominium board member, you'll gain practical tools, legal insights, and best practices you can put to work in your community right away.

Participants will be grouped by community association experience level to ensure the education is relevant and engaging. Be sure to select one of these levels when registering:
  • Group A: 0–2 years (Beginner)
  • Group B: 3–7 years (Intermediate)
  • Group C: 8+ years (Experienced)
  • PCAM: Expert
Each group will rotate through a series of educational sessions designed specifically for their experience level. During one rotation, participants will enjoy a networking break with drinks and light refreshments while connecting with colleagues and visiting event sponsors.

Session I: “Calm in the Chaos: Handling HOA Conflict Like a Pro” presented by Brady Ortego, CMCA, Steptoe & Johnson 

  • Takeaways: Difficult homeowners can challenge even the most experienced boards and managers, but the right approach can turn conflict into productive conversations. Learn practical strategies to de-escalate tense situations, protect the board's authority, and resolve disputes with confidence and professionalism. 

​Session II: “The Elephant in the Room…or the Chicken, Kangaroo, Peacock, etc… — Changes to FHA Guidance on Emotional Support Animals and How it Affects You” presented by Greg Cagle, Cagle Pugh 

  • Takeaways: Gain a practical understanding of how to respond to assistance animal requests, apply animal restrictions appropriately, and enforce community policies in compliance with fair housing laws. 

Session III: “Who's Sleeping Next Door? The Short-Term Rental Dilemma” presented by Jonathan Clark, Hoover Slovacek, LLP 

  • Takeaways: Explore the challenges of short-term rentals and learn practical strategies for monitoring and enforcing leasing restrictions, caps, waitlists, partial-lot rentals, and emerging trends like Swimply while protecting your community’s interests.
